The year 2007 has been very windy, especially during the wintertime. Massive waves washed away up to a few thousand tones of dirt and sand
into the sea on all Irish coasts. The coastline has been permanently changed, and the visibility under water has been wrecked for the remaining year.
We went to the Atlantic coast in the Southwest in August hoping to find crystal clear water with up to 30m visibility as usual.
Instead we could see only as far as 5-7m, a bit more in some places, which was still good enough to enjoy snorkeling.
But the water everywhere was full of tiny floating seaweed fragments and other particles.
It was not an obstacle to enjoy the underwater views, but for the underwater photography all that floating stuff was like a veil.
Because of all that it was very hard to take pictures of an acceptable quality even on sunny days.
Besides unlike most years the weather in 2007 wasn’t good even in August – the Atlantic winds and rain kept reigning over Ireland.
Still I managed to take many nice landscape and some underwater pictures, and I’ve recorded lots of underwater videos as well.
